The UAE Federal Judiciary approved the establishment of misdemeanor courts for the decision of specific minor cases in just one day based on the Code of Criminal Procedures. This will reduce the backlog of cases in the courts resulting in better efficiency of judiciary.

The cases that are addressed in these swift courts includes, but not limited to, those related to labour strikes; traffic fines, eavesdropping on phone calls; intentional disturbance of others through means of wireless and wired communications; causing to set fire to the property of another by mistake; disrespect to burial sites; in addition to other minor misdemeanours. The One-Day Courts may also address all cases related to the Entry and Residence of Foreign Nationals in the UAE. The aim of these courts is to shorten the process and deliver a verdict in two phases in less than 24 hours, whereas it used to take three to six months to be resolved in the past.
Ras Al Khaimah was the first emirate in the UAE to introduce One-Day Courts followed by Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This has helped the Government to save millions of dirhams. One-Day Courts will be established in every Federal Judicial Department to look into over 50 misdemeanours within a day.
