Exclusive License
An exclusive license is a legal agreement granting one party the sole right to use, manufacture, or distribute a product, service, or intellectual property within a defined territory or market. In the UAE, exclusive distribution agreements are governed by Federal Law No. 18 of 1981 on Commercial Agencies, which allows registered agents to hold exclusive rights to distribute certain goods. Intellectual property (IP) rights, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights, can also be licensed exclusively under UAE IP laws. Exclusive licenses must be carefully structured to avoid anti-competitive practices, especially in sectors regulated by the Competition Law (Federal Law No. 4 of 2012).
