Copyright is an intellectual property right that protects original works such as literary, artistic, musical, and software creations. In the UAE, copyright protection is governed by Federal Law No. 38 of 2021 on Copyrights and Related Rights, which grants creators exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, and monetize their works. Copyright protection in the UAE automatically applies upon creation and typically lasts for the creator’s lifetime plus 50 years posthumously. The UAE is also a signatory to international copyright treaties like the Berne Convention, ensuring global protection for copyrighted works.
