A business license is a legal permit required to operate a company in the UAE, issued by regulatory authorities such as the Department of Economic Development (DED) for mainland companies and various free zone authorities for businesses in designated economic zones. The UAE offers different types of licenses, including commercial, professional, industrial, and tourism licenses, depending on the nature of business activities. Certain businesses, such as financial services and healthcare, require additional regulatory approvals from authorities like the Central Bank of the UAE, Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), or the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Operating without a valid license can lead to heavy fines, legal action, or business closure.
